Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has launched his opening offer for long term target Daniele De Rossi with the Blues making an £8.5m bid for the Roma midfielder according to Football Italia.

It’s not an offer that is likely to be accepted by the Giallorossi but could serve to sound out the World Cup winning midfielder and make it clear to the experienced Italian that the Stamford Bridge side is keen on securing his services.

This source claims that Man City and Man United are also interested in the 29 year old who may well be ready to consider his future club career options having just finished his stint on international duty at the Confederations Cup Finals in Brazil.

One club man De Rossi has completed 12 seasons at the Stadio Olimpico and could feel that the time is right to leave his hometown club having failed to secure a single Serie A title, and collecting five runners-up medals in the process.

Last term Roma finished in sixth spot and therefore have no European football to speak of in 2013/14 which could further convince De Rossi to consider any Chelsea offer.

Mourinho had chased the tough tackling box to box performer whilst at Real Madrid and could see De Rossi as a preferable central midfield option to the likes of John Obi Mikel, Ramires or Oriol Romeu.

De Rossi has racked up over 400 appearances for Roma and has 90 national team caps to his name so it will undoubtedly take a bid well in excess of that which has been noted by this source.
