Tottenham are set to announce the successful completion of their pursuit of Barcelona striker David Villa according to the Daily Star.

This source claims that Spanish reports suggest that a deal has been agreed between the Catalan side and the White Hart Lane outfit and with Villa having completed his stint of international duty at the Confederations Cup a move is said to be imminent.

The 31 year old has been something of a bit part player at Barcelona, falling behind the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Pedro and on occasion Cesc Fabregas, when the former Arsenal man has been used in a striking role, as support for Lionel Messi.

The signing of Brazilian Neymar will seemingly see Villa being used in an even more limited role so a move away from the Nou Camp is perhaps a wise one for the former Valencia man to pursue.

Barcelona are said to be keen on selling Villa due to the fact that the cost of keeping the striker increasing year on year as a result of the four year contract he signed back in 2010 that would leave the Catalan side having to fork out £9.4m in wages for the final 12 months of his deal.

Andre Villas-Boas is very keen to strengthen his attack after Emmanuel Adebayor’s inability to make a consistent impact at Tottenham whilst Jermain Defoe also struggled in the second half of 2012/13.
