A number of top clubs are on alert as they wait for the outcome of showdown talks between Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney and David Moyes according to The Daily Mail.

The England striker is reportedly unhappy at Old Trafford and is keen to sit down with his former mentor to discuss his future.

Rooney is reportedly unhappy at his diminished role at United since the arrival of Dutch striker Robin Van Persie from Arsenal last summer.

He is said to have been furious after being dropped from the starting eleven for the club’s Champions League last sixteen tie against Real Madrid last season.

Relations are understood to have become so bad that former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that Rooney handed in a transfer request near the end of the campaign.

That has been subsequently denied by United officials and it appears that many are hopeful that new United boss David Moyes will be able to persuade Rooney to commit his future to the club.

The pair know each other well from their time together at Everton but it is being suggested that Rooney has already made up his mind to seek out a new club.

The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea are all lying in wait for the outcome of the talks.
