Tottenham have told midfielder Tom Huddlestone that he is surplus to requirements at the club according to The London Evening Standard.

The 26 year old joined the club from Derby for £2.5 million in 2005 but has been in and out of the Tottenham side for a number of years.

But his first team opportunities have increasingly diminished over the last few seasons and it appears that club are now ready to offload him as they look to fund their chase for new signings.

Huddlestone already finds himself behind the likes of Scott Parker, Sandro, Moussa Dembele and Lewis Hotlby in the Tottenham pecking order and his chances of action are likely to be further reduced if, as expected, Paulinho arrives at White Hart Lane.

The player himself has admitted he would like to feature more regularly and there are likely to be no shortage of suitors for his signature.

Tottenham are reportedly looking for around £5 million and that is a prospect that is already interesting Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio.

They are likely to face competition from Hull but Sunderland remain the favourites to secure his services as the player is reportedly keen not to drop his current wages.
