West Brom are said to be considering a surprise move to sign out of contract veteran Nicolas Anelka according to the Daily Mail.

The 34 year old Frenchman, who Baggies boss Steve Clarke knows well from their shared time at Chelsea, is without a club having ended his short term spell at Juventus following an ill advised switch to China following spells at a host of Premier League sides.

Clarke will be looking for striking additions as any move to re-sign Romelu Lukaku, who scored 19 goals for the Hawthorns sides last term, is unlikely to succeed as Jose Mourinho is said to be looking to use the Belgian in a prominent first team role.

West Brom have also been linked with interest in former Blues pair Franco Di Santo and Salomon Kalou but a move to sign Anelka could perhaps be a more likely.

Anelka has enjoyed spells at Arsenal, Bolton, Man City and Chelsea, as well as a loan period at Liverpool, and has over 200 club goals to his name.
