Stamford Bridge side preparing to make a bid for the want-away striker.
Chelsea are preparing an audacious bid for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney according to The Telegraph.
The England star is believed to want a move away from Old Trafford after a disappointing previous campaign at the club.
Rooney is reportedly unhappy with his diminished role at Old Trafford, and is no longer one of the first names on the team sheet following the arrival of Robin Van Persie and the emergence of young stars such as Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck.
Before his retirement at the end of last season, former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that Rooney had handed in his second transfer request in three years in a move that is likely to put an end to his time with the Premier League Champions.
There were brief hopes of a reconciliation with new boss David Moyes, who knows Rooney well from their time at Everton together, but that now appears to be unlikely.
That could pave the way for a move to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho known to be a firm admirer of the player.
Mourinho has reportedly made bringing in attacking reinforcements one of his top priorities and believes Rooney perfectly fits the bill to lead the line for him up front.
