Anfield side set sights on Nou Camp forward.
Liverpool are ready to turn to experienced Barcelona striker David Villa as a potential replacement for Luis Suarez according to the Daily Mirror.
Though Brendan Rodgers is hopeful of persuading his Uruguayan hot-shot to stay at Anfield the Liverpool boss is looking to possible options should he fail to prevent the striker’s exit.
Reports in Spain suggest that 31 year old Spanish international is the favourite to fill the void that would be left by a Suarez departure and Liverpool feel they can pick up the Barcelona man for a bargain price.
Rodgers has brought in Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto from La Liga but neither could be considered the club’s first choice striking options and are perhaps more long term or supporting squad players whilst a player of Villa’s undoubted ability and experience could be seen as a solid replacement for Suarez.
This source believes Liverpool could bring in Villa for a fee of around £8m though both Tottenham and Napoli are also said to be keen on the former Valencia man.
David Villa has amassed 282 club goals and is the holds the all-time goalscoring record for the Spanish national team.
