Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has repeated his insistence that he did not hand in a transfer request at the end of last season according to The Mirror.

The England star has been repeatedly linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks after former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that Rooney had handed in his second transfer request in three years near the end of last season.

That has led to almost constant speculation regarding where Rooney will be plying his trade next season though United officials insist he will be remaining at Old Trafford.

Rooney is set for showdown talks with Ferguson’s successor, David Moyes, he knows him well from their time together at Everton.

It is hoped that the talks will be reconciliatory in nature but Rooney is keen to put forward his vision of how United should be playing.

It is understood that Rooney is keen to press home to Moyes his desire of playing in a more central role after he was often deployed in a wider role last season following the arrival of Dutch striker Robin Van Persie from Arsenal.

Rooney is also apparently insisting that the club ‘clarify’ that he did not hand in a transfer request.
