Alan Pardew’s search for a new striking addition has taken the Newcastle United boss to Wigan Athletic with the Magpies boss targeting Latics marksman Arouna Kone according to the Daily Star.

The St James’ Park side join Liverpool and Everton in pursuit of the 29 year old Ivory Coast international who netted 13 goals for Wigan Athletic last season.

Kone’s contract including a clause that meant that should Wigan get relegated to the Championship then he would be free to leave for a fairly minimal offer, said to be in the region of £5m.

Many had expected Kone to reunite with former boss Roberto Martinez at Goodison Park but interest from Liverpool and Newcastle United could tempt the former Levante forward.

Pardew is keen to strengthen his attack having not adequately replaced Demba Ba, who left for Chelsea in January, and given the average form displayed by Papiss Cisse last term there is an even more pressing need to bring in a solid striker signing this summer.
