German giants Bayern Munich have denied that they will be trying to sign Chelsea star David Luiz this summer after claiming that they won’t be pursuing any defenders, Sky Sports reports.

Reports in Bavaria earlier this week had claimed that new Bayern boss Pep Guardiola was weighing up a move for the Brazilian international as he held concerns over the side’s defensive options.

International defender Holger Badstuber could be sidelined for a further year after recently discovering that he will require a fourth operation on his injured right knee, having sustained ligament damage last December.

Many had been expected to dip into the transfer market as they look to emulate the same sort of success they enjoyed last season, however, club director Matthias Sammer insists that the club have enough cover to cope and will be putting their faith in Jan Kirchhoff rather than looking for more new recruits.

“We are not going to sign a new defender since we have already signed a defender this summer in Jan Kirchhoff,” Sammer told kicker-Sportmagazin.

“The decision not to sign a further defender is clearly to be seen as giving a fair chance to Jan.”

Luiz has also been linked with a move to Barcelona after rumours that Jose Mourinho could be keen to let him go refuse to go away.
