Cardiff City have reportedly lodged an £8.5million bid for reported Chelsea and Arsenal target Kurt Zouma, according to ESPN.

Just days after sealing a club-record deal to sign FC Copenhagen striker Andreas Cornellius for £8million earlier this week, Cardiff are prepared to upstage that deal with an opening offer for French starlet Zouma, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League over the past couple of transfer windows.

The 18-year old defender has impressed in Ligue 1 last season, and also during the recent U20 World Cup with the national team. According to RMC, Cardiff, Wolfsburg and Anzhi Makhachkala have all sent ‘double-digit offers (euros)’ for Zouma this summer.

Saint Etienne are at risk of losing another one of their prized assets following the sale of reported Newcastle target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund this week, signing a 5-year deal for a reported fee of £12million.

Zouma was the subject of an £8million bid from Manchester City in January of 2012, but they have not shown any interest since then. His agent, David Venditelli, is quoted as saying that his client ‘prefers [a move to] England’ this summer, but a number of clubs, including Chelsea and Arsenal, have been scared off by the high price-tag.

“Liverpool, Juventus and Manchester United were interested, but they cooled when they learned of Saint Etienne’s asking price.. There is, however, and English club [Cardiff] and German side [Wolfsburg] still in the running’.
