Exclusive: Arsenal In Talks to Sign Brazilian Midfielder

Emirates Stadium side look to bring in top talent this summer.

Arsenal are reportedly in talks to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Luis Gustavo.

CaughtOffside understands that Arsene Wenger has discussed the possibility of signing the Brazilian and has enquired as to the 25 year old’s availability and appears to have been given the green light to make an offer for the defensive midfielder.

Gustavo was something of a bit-part player at the Allianz Arena last term with Spaniard Javi Martinez effectively consigning the rangy midfielder to act as an understudy meaning that he managed just 16 Bundesliga starts last season which in turn has led to the player playing a limited role in the Brazilian national team set-up.

It’s this lack of first team football and it’s resultant issues related to his national team chances that may well lead to Gustavo considering a move away from the Bavarian side, regardless of the fact that Pep Guardiola has now taken over at the club.

Wenger has been looking to bring in an out and out defensive midfield presence, having failed to replace Alex Song since the Cameroon international left for Barcelona last summer, leaving Mikel Arteta having to work in an unfamiliar holding role last term.

Arsene Wenger had been linked to Gustavo during the January transfer window and is keen to step up his pursuit of the former Hoffenheim man who has racked up 97 appearances since moving to Bayern Munich in January 2011, 28 of those coming from the bench.

Arsenal are hoping to bring in a number of established players this summer as the club looks to mount a genuine challenge for major honours.

The Emirates Stadium side hope to complete a deal to sign Real Madrid Gonzalo Higuain in a matter of days with other talents set to follow.
