Real Madrid and Paris St Germain have joined the race to sign Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi, Goal.com reports.

Chelsea have been strongly linked with the Italian international with Jose Mourinho hoping to build his new look midfield around De Rossi but will now have competition for the 29 year olds signature.

De Rossi had a troubled season at Roma and lost his regular starting place at the heart of the Italian clubs midfield.

He held talks with the clubs sporting director Walter Sabatini after he returned from international duty with Italy as he looks to resolve his future.

While new Roma boss Rudi Garcia wants to keep De Rossi, the club are thought to be willing to listen to offers of around £15 million for a player who turns 30 later this month.

Chelsea are understood to have opened preliminary talks with Roma about signing the midfielder but with PSG and Real Madrid now closely monitoring the situation, the Blues may have to act fast in order to get their man.

De Rossi was close to leaving Roma last summer, when Manchester City were interested in him but the midfielder decided to stay at his boyhood club for another season.
