Arouna Kone is set to have a medical at Everton and will link up with former manager Roberto Martinez at Goodison Park, the Daily Mirror reports.

Newcastle United and Swansea had submitted bids for the striker but Kone has decided to stick by his former manager Martinez and make his way to Everton in a £5 million move.

Kone is set to become Martinez first signing as Everton manager and the striker will sign a long-term deal to keep him at Goodison Park for the foreseeable future.

The striker joined Martinez at Wigan last summer after having a successful career in Spain and both men helped Wigan to win the FA Cup in May.

However, Wigan were relegated days later and Kone has said that he is not prepared to play in the Championship as he wants to make the most of playing at the highest level while he is still at his best.

Kone rejected Newcastle, who matched the fee that Wigan were looking for while Swansea bid £5 million plus £1 million in extras but the striker decided to move to where his former manager was.

Everton are also reportedly interested in Kone’s Wigan team mate James McCarthy but the Latics want the midfielder to stay with them as they look to get promoted back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
