Liverpool are looking to take advantage of Valencia’s well publicised financial problems by picking up experienced French international Aly Cissokho ‘on the cheap’ according to the Sunday Mirror.

Brendan Rodgers hopes to bring in the 25 year old French international for a fee of just £4m as he sets about strengthening his defence.

Cissokho impressed at the Mestalla in his first season at the La Liga side last term, following three seasons at Lyon, and could be tempted by the chance to move to Anfield.

Rodgers has already brought in a host of signings and will look to make the left-back his fifth signing of the summer following the captures of Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas and Simong Mignolet from Man City, Sevilla, Celta Vigo and Sunderland respectively.

The retirement of Jamie Carragher and the possible departure of frozen out Slovakian Martin Skrtel could well lead to Rodgers looking to bring in further defensive options.

Rodgers may feel that Cissokho has more to offer than his current left-back options with Daniel Agger being far more effective in a central defensive role and Luis Enrique perhaps being too inconsistent for the Northern Irishman’s liking.
