Tottenham are set to offer star player Gareth Bale a new contract to stay at White Hart Lane amid interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid, the Daily Mirror reports.

The winger is due back for pre season training with Spurs and the club will offer Bale £170,000 a week to stay with the club and reject the interest coming from Spain.

Spurs are desperate to keep Bale at the club for at least one more season as they try and finish in the Premier League’s top four, meaning they would qualify for a place in the highly lucrative Champions League.

Real Madrid and Manchester United are both thought to be interested in Bale and will return for the Welshman next summer if they fail to sign the winger this summer.

Should Bale not sign a new contract this summer then Spurs would have much less power to bargain with next summer as a players value decreases when he enters the final two years of his contract.

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas has a good working relationship with Bale and is hopeful of persuading the Welshman to stay at the club this summer.

The Welshman will arrive back for pre season training tomorrow along with players who weren’t involved in a lot of international duty.
