Chelsea are set to enter the race to sign Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and will make a £40 million bid for the Uruguay international who has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, the Daily Mirror reports.

Suarez looks set to leave Liverpool this summer following another controversial season Anfield.

The striker is currently serving a 10 match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during a Premier League game last season and ironically could be playing alongside Ivanovic if Chelsea are successful in their bid.

Arsenal are also interested in Suarez and reportedly had a bid of £30 million rejected by Liverpool but Chelsea are ready to test the Reds resolve with a £40 million offer.

There is a clause in Suarez contract that states that Liverpool must listen to offers of £40 million although they don’t have to accept the offer.

Suarez has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid and has spent most of the off-season flirting with the Spanish giants, claiming that “he would give his heart and soul” if he were to play for Los Blancos.

However, Madrid have not bid for Suarez yet and the striker may now have to consider the offer from Chelsea.

Suarez said that he was considering moving from Liverpool because of his treatment at the hands of the British press so it will be interesting to see if he does consider a move to Stamford Bridge.
