Paris Saint Germain look to start their summer spending by signing Napoli’s star striker Edison Cavani according to the Daily Express & French daily L’Equipe.

The Uruguayan has been strongly linked with a move away from Italy this summer, with Manchester City, Chelsea and PSG favourites to sign him. But with a release clause of €63million, Jose Mourinho did not wish to follow up his interest in Cavani, instead he will turn his attention to Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke.

Leaving just Manchester City and PSG in the race to sign the former Palermo man. Pellegrini then spent recent weeks trying to secure deals for Fernandinho, Navas and Isco – with very little focus on Cavani – ultimately this caused them to miss out on Napoli’s star man to Laurent Blanc’s side.

The 26 year-old will become Blanc’s first signing, since accepting the managerial role of the French champions, for the huge €63million that Napoli asked for.

Edison is set to arrive in Paris to sign his contract and undergo a medical, despite various French news outlets reporting the deal as complete – without official confirmation.

The Ligue 1 champions now look set to turn their attention to Newcastle United’s star midfielder Yohan Cabaye as they look to replace former-Manchester United star David Beckham. Laurent Blanc has already confirmed interest in the French international this summer, but Mike Ashley has an asking price of £25million – a fee they can afford, but might not want to. Although last year was a bit of a disaster on Tyneside, the big stars (such as Hatem Ben Arfa and Tim Krul) look set to stay, and Yohan is no different. The 27 year-old has admitted to being flattered by their interest, but has no intention of leaving the Premier League this summer.
