Paris Saint Germain’s forward Jeremy Menez spent Tuesday morning in Monaco – but English press get the wrong end of the stick according to Eurosport.

The French international spend Tuesday morning in an operating room in Monaco as he had surgery for a ‘herniated disc’ – effectively just a spinal condition, which required surgery. Menez was previously sidelined last season for spinal problems, so the surgery should now eliminate any more issues with his back.

This news could not be worse for the Ligue 1 champions as they may have to play up to three months without the services of the 26 year-old.

“A departure for Menez? No! One can draw their own conclusions from the presence of Menez to Monaco to tell many things, that’s for sure,” Laurent Blanc told beIN Sport.

“But I know he was in Monaco for medical examinations and for that reason only.”

This news makes the arrival of Uruguayan striker Edison Cavani from Napoli even more important as PSG are currently left with two first team strikers – Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Kevin Gameiro. The €63million move is set to be completed this week, once the 26 year-old has had his medical in Paris.

Laurent Blanc may be set to lose another striker, but this time permanently as Newcastle United line up a move for Kevin Gameiro if they fail in their attempts to secure their targets, Darren Bent and Loic Remy. A deal involving PSG giving the Premier League side Gameiro and cash could be made for Newcastle’s midfield maestro Yohan Cabaye.
