Sevilla have insisted that they have not received a bid from Manchester City for star striker Alvaro Negredo, Sky Sports reports.

Speculation has been mounting that City are interested in signing Negredo this summer following his goal scoring record in La Liga last season.

City only have two first team strikers at the moment following the departure of Carlos Tevez to Juventus last month and Negredo is seen by many as a replacement for the Argentine.

Negredo has made it clear that he wants to leave the Spanish club this summer in search of a team that is playing regularly in the Champions League and reports have suggested that City are willing to pay £20 million for the striker.

However, Sevilla’s president Jose Maria del Nido has claimed that no team has yet made a formal approach for Negredo.

Speaking at the presentation of new Sevilla signing Nico Pareja, Del Nido said: “There hasn’t been any change with respect to Negredo’s situation.

“There hasn’t been any communication between the English club and Spanish club, and Negredo is training with his team-mates and has three more years on his contract.

“There hasn’t been any offer from Manchester City.”

Due to their lack of striking options up front, City are desperate to sign a quality striker and have turned to Negredo after failing to sign several of Europe’s most wanted strikers.

Edinson Cavani was City’s main target for this summer but the Sky Blues have been put off by the strikers £53 million asking price while another City target, Robert Lewandowski only wants to join Bayern Munich.
