Tottenham are preparing a move to sign reported Manchester United target Kevin Strootman, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Tottenham are planning to hijack Manchester United’s bid to sign £15million-rated PSV midfielder Kevin Strootman this summer. Following the signing of Paulinho from Corinthians last week, Spurs are reading a bid in excess of £15million for the Dutch midfielder.

Spurs a looking to make themselves a real force in next season’s title race, as long as they manage to retain star man Gareth Bale this summer, despite the interest from some of Europe’s top clubs, such as Real Madrid and Manchester United. Strootman has impressed since he joined PSV from Utrecht in 2011.

The 23-year old midfielder will anchor the midfield alongside Paulinho at Tottenham, or Carrick at Manchester United, assuming he leaves the club for the Premier League, however, the Dutch club claim they expect the talented midfielder to remain there for the upcoming season.

PSV’s sporting director Marcel Brands says they expect Strootman to stay at the club for another season at least. “We do not want to lose Strootman this summer. He knows that he will stay at PSV for another season,” he told De Telegraaf.

Strootman claim’s he is not interested in the stature of the club he joins this summer or next summer, admitting there is interest outside of the Premier League. “There are several clubs interested, but only when they reach an agreement with PSV do I come into the picture,’ said the Dutch international.

“This not to say that any are in the world’s top six. There is also interest from Russia, but that is not an option for me. I just do not take hasty decisions about my future. Whether the club I leave for must play in the Champions League? That wasn’t the case when I moved to PSV.”
