West Brom are interested in signing released Wigan forward Franco di Santo on a free transfer this summer, report the Express and Star.

The Baggies are looking to replace loaned striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, following his return to Chelsea, and have identified versatile attacker Franco di Santo as a cost-effective signing this summer. The free-agent impressed under Roberto Martinez at Wigan this past season, and the Spaniard wants the Argentine striker to join him at Everton, along with former Wigan man Arouna Kone.

Not really renowned for his prolific goal scoring record during his time with Wigan, only notching 13 goals in 92 appearances for the club in three years, Di Santo’s recognition has come from his work rate off the ball, and skilful manoeuvres whilst in possession, and willing runs off the last man. His team work and impeccable work ethic makes him an excellent fit in the highly-drilled squads of West brom and Everton, along with Swansea, as Michael Laudrup has also shown keen interest in signing the attacker.

West Brom have lost out on two of their main striker targets this summer already, after seeing Anderlecht front man Dieumerci Mbokani, recommended by Lukaku as a potential addition, rejected the club in favour of a move to Dynamo Kiev. Another target, Arouna Kone, snubbed the likes of the Baggies and Newcastle, so he can reunite with manager Roberto Martinez at Everton.
