Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld has come away ‘impressed’ by the ambition of Norwich City, according to the players Father.

Norwich have been linked with a move for the Belgian defender, according to Sky Sports, and are prepared to make a £6million bid for the defender, who has only one year remaining on his current contract at Ajax. Also linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, Alderweireld is said to be interested in a move to the Premier League this summer, with Norwich leading the chase.

Alderweireld has been linked with a number of high-profile clubs in the past, including Roma and Tottenham, but Ajax have yet to receive a concrete offer for his services. According to De Telegraaf, Norwich are looking to take advantage of the situation and lure the player to Carrow Road this summer.

Norwich have shown intent this summer to bolster their current squad, trying to create a distinctive gap between themselves and the relegation candidates this summer. Having already signed Ricky van Wolfswinkel from Sporting Lisbon this summer, the Canaries also have a deal in place to sign Ola Toivonen from PSV, and also remain interested in signing Alderweireld this summer.

Toby’s Father, Vic Alderweireld admits Norwich’s deal for Ricky van Wolfswinkel has forced a rethink. “Norwich has done something that showed a lot of ambition,” Vic told Gazet van Antwerpen. We look beyond the club’s name, the total picture is what counts.”
