Chelsea are hoping to tempt Wayne Rooney to Stamford Bridge with the prospect of being given a £240,000 a week wage packet worth £60 million according to The Daily Mail.

The Stamford Bridge have let it be known that they are willing to pay Rooney top dollar should he find a way of forcing himself out of Old Trafford.

The future of the England striker has been under constant speculation for some months now, ever since Rooney was dropped for United’s Champions League last sixteen tie against Real Madrid.

Rooney was said to have been furious at being left out of the team, adding insult to injury with regards to his diminished role at the club following the arrival of Robin Van Persie last summer.

Former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that Rooney handed in his second transfer request in three years at the back end of last season, something which has subsequently been denied by club officials.

At his first press conference for the club, Fergie’s successor David Moyes insisted Rooney wasn’t for sale, though he refused to answer questions regarding whether Rooney had asked to leave.

That discontent could pave the way for an exit from Old Trafford, with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho known to be a long term admirer of the striker.

Mourinho is keen to bring in a new striker this summer and could make Rooney his top summer priority after missing out on the signing of Napoli’s Edinson Cavani to French champions PSG.
