Brazilian side Internacional have rejected a £15.5 million bid from Napoli for striker Leandro Damiao, Goal.com reports.

Damiao has been linked with a move away from the Brazilian club this year, with Tottenham thought to be interested again in their long term target.

However, it appears that Napoli have started the bidding process for Damiao but will have to improve their bid if they hope to sign the Brazilian international.

Internacional’s sporting director Luis Cesar Souto confirmed that the Napoli bid had been rejected and said that the offer was far to low for a player of Damiao’s calibre.

He told reporters: “We had a verbal offer presented by Napoli of €18 million. We do not accept that this is Leandro’s true value. What Napoli have offered is very far from what we expected the bid to be.

“We believe he will be part of the Brazil national team for the 2014 World Cup. We have not yet given them a fixed price because it is not in our interest to negotiate for him.

Souto has slapped a £21.5 million price tag on Damiao in an attempt to ward off interest in the striker but it appears not to have worked.

Damiao has spoken about the possibility of a move away from Brazil and has said that he would like to move to a club that is playing in the Champions League.
