Norwich City Secure Russell Martin To New Three Year Deal

Stopper commits to Canaries.Norwich City have signed defender Russell Martin up to a new three year contract at Carrow Road, Sky Sports reports.

The Scottish international, who joined Norwich on a permanent basis in 2010 after impressing on loan from Peterborough, has made 146 appearances for the club, and has now put pen to paper on a deal to keep him at the club until 2016.

The 27-year-old is a popular figure amongst Norwich fans who have nicknamed him ‘The Norfolk Cafu’, and he has spoken of his delight at being able to commit himself to the club for so long.

“I’m extremely delighted – everyone knows how I feel about playing for this football club,” he told the club’s official website.

“Since I first arrived here it’s gone unbelievably well and I feel really settled in the area.

“I’m happy playing for this Club and I’ve got a great relationship with the players, staff and the supporters, and I’m just delighted to be here for another three years.”

Club manager Chris Hughton also said:

“It’s about players earning a new deal and I’m delighted to be extending Russell Martin’s contract.

“Russ has played his full part not just in helping us to achieve our finishing position last season, but of course in the club’s massive successes over the previous three seasons and he’s certainly earned his new contract.”
