Tottenham are refusing to meet Aston Villa’s valuation of Christian Benteke according to Goal.com.

The Belgian forward handed in a transfer request this week as he hopes to engineer a move away from the club.

There are no shortage of suitors for the player with both Chelsea and Liverpool thought to be monitoring his availability.

But it is understood that Benteke favours a move to White Hart Lane and is keen to try and push through a deal that would allow him to join up with Andre Vilas-Boas’ men.

Tottenham have baulked at Villa’s asking price though and have made it clear they will not be paying £25 million for his signature.

Villa are slighted that Benteke has handed in a transfer request after just one successful season with the club are keen to get every penny they can for him.

Villa chairman Randy Lerner is aware of the interest in Benteke and is ready to use it to drive up his price.

Chelsea are ready to splash the cash on securing his signature after having their hopes dashed twice already this summer when they missed out on Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani, who joined Monaco and PSG respectively.

Liverpool are also likely to have money to spend as it looks increasingly likely that Luis Suarez will leave the club this summer.

That may force Tottenham into coughing up should they remain resolute in their determination to sign Benteke.
