Chelsea have been given the green light to make a move for Roma midfielder Daniele Rossi after the Italian club reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven to sign Kevin Strootman, the Daily Mirror reports.

Strootman is seen as a replacement for De Rossi, who has had a bad season at the Italian club following a falling out with Roma’s former coach.

Although De Rossi has been at the club for all of his career, many have speculated that now might be the right time for the midfielder to move on and Chelsea are very interested in bringing the Italian to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer or De Rossi and has tried to sign him twice before, when he was Inter Milan manager and then when he was Real Madrid boss.

It could now be third time lucky for Mourinho and he will hope to shape his now look midfield around the highly experienced De Rossi.

Roma are demanding £11 million for De Rossi and want Chelsea to loan them their young left back Wallace to sweeten the deal.
