German Wonderkid Julian Draxler Delivers Chelsea Snub

The forward is keen to stay at Schalke for at least one more season.

Julien Draxler has rejected an approach from Chelsea, with the Blues seeing the 19 year old as the perfect replacement for Juan Mata, whose future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain, Goal.com reports.

Mata has been granted additional leave by Chelsea following his stint at the Confederations Cup with Spain but reports suggest that he is looking to hold urgent talks with manager Jose Mourinho about his future.

Speculation has mounted that Mourinho is set to sell the Spaniard in order to raise funds for his future purchases and Barcelona are understood to be interested in Mata should he become available.

Chelsea’s move for Draxler will only increase speculation that Mata is on his way out of Chelsea but the Schalke player is said to want to stay in Germany for at least one more season to continue his development.

Draxler is keen to stay at Schalke this season so that he can be a part of Germany’s squad for next summers World Cup and feels that a move to Chelsea may hinder his progress in the German national team.

The 19 year old could make a move to Stamford Bridge next summer though, after the World Cup in Brazil.
