Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

Southampton are set to receive a huge boost this week with the news that key defender Luke Shaw is set to put pen to paper on a new deal to remain with the South Coast club, reports the Southern Daily Echo.

Rumours have been doing the rounds all summer long suggesting that the in-demand England Under-17 international would be leaving St Mary’s as soon as the transfer window reopened for business at the start of this month, with the likes of Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United both known to be keen on signing the youngster.

The 17-year-old has only been featuring for the Saints for the past two seasons now, having made his Southampton debut in the 2011-12 campaign, and in the mean time the full back has played in just 29 matches in all competitions for the club, including 25 league outings, despite his tender age.

However, Southampton have been desperate to keep hold of Shaw for next season in the face of much competition to sign the left back and it appears as though the club have now done enough to persuade the player that his future, for now, is best served by remaining with Mauricio Pochettino’s outfit.
