Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis has spoke of his delight at the prospect of working alongside Spanish international striker David Villa this season, Sky Sports reports.

The Copa Del Rey winners pulled off the surprise acquisition of the striker for €2.1 million (£1.8 million), a fee which will rise to €5.1million (£4.4 million) if he sees out the entirety of his three-year contract.

And Luis feels it is a fine bit of business for both the club and the player.

“I think he’s a great signing, and the correct choice, not just because of everything he represents for Spanish football, but because he won’t need to adapt, he scores 15 or 20 goals a season,” he told a press conference.

Villa had been brought in to replace Colombian hitman Radamel Falcao who was the club’s leading scorer last term with 28 goals, but Luis was careful not to compare to duo too closely.

“He has been scoring goals in this league for many years now and, most importantly, he still has that hunger, which is what this team needs if we are to keep growing and competing,” said the Brazilian.

“Of course Falcao and Villa are different players. Villa plays all over the pitch and is very good at finding space. Last year Diego Costa played that way and it worked very well for us. I’m sure he’ll come here determined to succeed.”
