Man United are set to re-ignite their interest in Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric according to the Daily Star.

The 27 year old struggled to make an impact in the early stages of his first season at the Bernabeu but won over his detractors in the last few months of the campaign and is now thought to be a player who is very much part of new boss Carlo Ancelotti’s plans but this will not stop David Moyes setting his sights on the 27 year old.

The former Tottenham man is considered an alternative to Barcelona youngster Thiago Alcantara, who has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford but appears to be edging towards a Bayern Munich switch.

Modric made 36 starts in all competitions last term and may well be keen on making an impression at Real Madrid but could perhaps be tempted by a return to the Premier League.

The Croatian international spent four seasons at White Hart Lane prior to a £33m move to Real Madrid last August.

Moyes is keen to freshen up his midfield, where arguably he can currently only rely on veteran Michael Carrick to make a consistent impact. Darren Fletcher continues to make his way back from a lengthy spell out with illness, Paul Scholes has retired for a second time, Anderson has been decidedly average for the last couple of seasons and Tom Cleverley though originally impressive did lose his way a little in the second half of 2012/13.
