Emirates Stadium side linked with level of purchase that will probably not impress Gunners faithful.
Arsenal’s pursuit of a goalkeeping acquisition has reportedly led the North London club to take an interest in Wigan Athletic’s Ali Al-Habsi according to Sports Direct News.
The recently relegated Latics have seen a number of their side leave this summer with Antolin Alcaraz and Arouna Kone joining Roberto Martinez at Everton and now it seems that Oman international Al Habsi could be the next to leave the DW Stadium.
The 31 year old keeper’s price-tag has reportedly dropped from £7m to £4m but a move for Al Habsi would still be something of a surprise given that the Wigan Athletic man is surely no better than the two first team options Wenger currently has to call upon.
Wojciech Szczesny dropped a few clangers last term and Lukasz Fabianski was called in on a number of occasions towards the end of the last campaign and proved fairly consistent but one would imagine that Wenger’s efforts to bring in another option to field behind his defence would involve a higher level of player.
Al-Habsi has impressed on occasion but is also well known for making very elementary errors.
The former Bolton keeper has made a total of 111 appearances for Wigan Athletic.
