Following his release from Aston Villa, Richard Dunne now looks set to join Queens Park Rangers on a free according to ESPN.

Yet another veteran signing (if the deal is completed) for the Championship side who have a habit of signing older players in recent years. Following their relegation from the Premier League, QPR boss Harry Redknapp looks to continue his overhaul at the club, causing a mass exodus of star players, such as Loic Remy, Julio Cesar and Chris Samba.

The Championship side are not the only team chasing the defender though, LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls have also made an attempts to persuade the Irish international to move to America.

Dunne did not play a single game for Aston Villa last season due to continuous injuries problems, causing the Premier League side to have all sorts of defensive issues. Now the 33 year-old looks to kick start his club and international careers by signing for London club QPR.

Redknapp feels the injury prone, Irish defender is exactly what he needs to replace the recently departed Chris Samba, who returned to Russian side Anzhi for £12million. Defensive commitment was definitely one of his sides issues last campaign as they lacked a real commitment throughout the whole side, even long term servants to the club failed to prove the club’s value to them – such as Adel Taarabt who was fined twice for turning up to training late, and was also banished from the clubs training camp in Devon.

The former Tottenham boss did have his heart set on West Brom defender Jonas Olsson but the Premier League side rejected their £5million bid for the Swedish international. Although Jonas does favour a move to London, West Brom do not wish to lose their precious defender, forcing QPR to asses other targets such as Dunne and William Gallas.
