Darren Bent to Newcastle United
The Aston Villa striker has had a funny old season in the West Midlands. After being named as captain and starting the campaign with a steady run of games he soon found himself out of the side as they adapted to a style of play that just didn’t suit him – the red hot form of Christian Benteke didn’t help his cause either.
He has been told that he is free to find a new club by Paul Lambert the Scott’s counterpart at St James’ Park has admitted that he has him in his sights.
“Both of those players are on our list. I make no bones about that,” he said.
Bent would represent great value for the £6 million price he’s been quoted. At just 29-year-old he still has a lot to offer a top flight with a scoring record of 103 goals in 245 Premier League appearances, and furthermore, with it being a World Cup year he’ll want to prove that he still has something to offer Roy Hodgson’s men.
Having played for Newcastle’s rivals, Sunderland, it remains to be seen how the fans would take to him, but if he hits the back of the net as regularly as everybody knows he can then they’ll surely forgive his past allegiances.
