Ashley Williams- Swansea City to Arsenal
Williams has had an excellent season for Swansea, leading the side to League Cup glory in February and helping the Swans to a top half finish in the Premier League. The defenders strong performances have not gone unnoticed, with many clubs hoping to add the Welshman to their squad this summer. Arsenal have been frontrunners for most of the summer but haven’t bid because Swansea continue to demand £10 million for their captain, which Arsene Wenger has refused to pay. However, it seems that Wenger’s hand has been forced with the injury to Thomas Vermaelen.
The Belgian defender will miss the start of the new season, meaning the Gunners are light in defence and Wenger may need to pay Swansea’s asking price for Williams so that he can beef up Arsenal’s defence. Williams would be interested in a move to Arsenal and would like the opportunity to play in the Champions League while he is still at his best. The defender feels that he could benefit from a new challenge and Arsenal are ready to offer him just that.
