Everton are ready to sell full-back Leighton Baines to Man United but only if they up their opening bid to £18m according to the Daily Star.

The Goodison Park side are expecting an offer of that amount from the Old Trafford side in the next few days as David Moyes sets about bringing in his former Toffees charge.

Moyes made a £12m bid for the 28 year old England man which was firmly rejected by the Merseyside club who informed Baines that he would have to request a transfer in order to force through a move to Man United this summer.

The new Man United boss sees the former Wigan Athletic man as a priority signing and Leighton Baines could well be the Scot’s first high profile signing in charge of the Premier League title holders.

Roberto Martinez has brought in a number of new additions since taking over at Everton and could well look to use any funds garnered from the sale of Baines to help further boost his squad.

Baines may feel that a high-profile move to Man United would help in his push to unseat Ashley Cole as Roy Hodgson’s number one left-back option.
