Arsenal are not interested in re-signing FC Barcelona midfield player Cesc Fabregas this summer, according to exclusive reports in the Daily Star.

The coveted Spain international is currently the subject of a £26 million bid from Premier League champions Manchester United, although that is unlikely to be enough to be able to persuade the Liga champions to allow the 26-year-old to depart Camp Nou.

And the Gunners, who have first refusal on the bringing their former captain back to north London, have decided against taking up that option, two years after they sold the Spaniard to the Catalans for 34m euros.

Fabregas has enjoyed a stop-start career back in Catalonia in the intervening two-year period, featuring in 96 matches overall in all competitions for his boyhood club, and registering 29 goals and 32 assists along the way, including 20 goals and 21 assists in his 60 league outings for the Spanish champions.

However, Gunners head coach Arsene Wenger feels that it would be the wrong decision to try to bring his former star man back to the club this summer, and now we must wait to see if Fabregas will instead join Arsenal’s fierce rivals from the north west.
