Man City are set to confirm the signing of Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic after agreeing a price for the impressive Montenegro international according to the Daily Mail.

New Etihad Stadium boss Manuel Pellegrini has seemingly seen his efforts to land Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo stall and has therefore stepped up his pursuit of 23 year old Serie A star Jovetic.

Fiorentina and Man City had initially been some way apart in their valuations of Jovetic but a deal is said to have been agreed that would see the Premier League side fork out £23m to bring in the former Partizan Belgrade man with a further £5m dependent on the player’s appearances for the club.

Man City have already spent the best part of £45m to bring in Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho and Sevilla winger Jesus Navas but have looked to offset the cost of new additions by trimming their squad and cutting their massive wage bill.

Carlos Tevez left for Juventus, a move that is said to have saved Man City £17m in wages and bonuses alone whilst Kolo Toure, Wayne Bridge and Roque Santa Cruz were all released on completion of their lucrative contracts.

Full-Back Maicon is also expected to leave the club in the coming days with a move to Roma apparently on the cards.

Jovetic has finished as Fiorentina’s top scorer in their past two Serie A campaigns, scoring 27 goals in the process.
