Italian giants Napoli are the latest club to be linked with a move for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, after a move to Arsenal appears to have stalled according to the Daily Express.

Premier League side, Arsenal, have been tracking the Argentine for months with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger trying to wrap up a deal this summer. But after the £23million fee was agreed and the player was due in London, the deal halted and the 25 year-old took a dramatic U-turn telling Marca he wanted to stay in Madrid.

The London club have now turned their attention to Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, who will set them back £35million minimum if they want to land the want away Uruguayan this summer.

After the recent departure of Edinson Cavani from Napoli to French champions PSG, Rafa Benitez is now looking to spend the £55million received from his sale. Napoli are to offer Madrid the €30million they demanded, then offer Gonzalo the £70,000-a-week he desired to move away from the Spanish capital.

The Argentine, who was previously wanted by Italian giants Juventus, would become the third player to leave Madrid for Napoli this summer after the recent departures of Albiol and Callejon for a combined total of €25million.

Real Madrid’s chief executive Florentino Perez has already confirmed that Higuain is not for sale, after telling reporters : “We don’t want Higuain to leave. What’s more, no one from Arsenal has come to us and made us any offers at all for him [Higuain].”

Perez is yet to comment on alleged interest from the Italian sides.
