Chelsea have reportedly launched a bid to sign unhappy Man United striker Wayne Rooney with the BBC stating that the West London side offered a player plus £10m in exchange for the England international.

The players said to be used by the Stamford Bridge side in any such deal are Brazilian international David Luiz and Spanish playmaker Juan Mata, an offer that the Old Trafford side have seemingly turned down.

27 year old Man United forward Wayne Rooney is said to be keen on leaving Man United this summer after being left ‘angry’ and ‘confused’ by statements made by boss David Moyes regarding his position as a back-up option for the incoming manager.

Jose Mourinho could certainly do with strengthening his Chelsea attack but the inclusion of either named player does seem more than a tad surprising.

A move to offer Mata in part exchange would surely have tempted Moyes given the incredible success the Chelsea man has enjoyed since moving to West London from Valencia two years ago.

The creative midfielder played a key role in helping Chelsea to secure a maiden Champions League triumph in his first season at the club and then produced an even more consistent level of effectiveness last term. The 25 year old has racked up 32 goals and 59 assists in his 118 appearances for the Blues.

Arguably he is also just the type of player Moyes could do with in order to freshen up his midfield and add an extra goal-scoring threat to his Man United starting eleven.
