Chelsea are ready to test Manchester United’s resolve by returning with an improved offer for wantaway striker Wayne Rooney according to The Daily Mail.

The Stamford Bridge side are understood to have made an official bid to United over the past few days.

It had been claimed that Chelsea offered £10 million plus either David Luiz or Juan Mata, but that was subsequently denied by the Blues who claim they offered a straight cash deal of £20 million.

Either way, the offer was turned down, leaving Chelsea to consider their options. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is known to be a firm admirer of Rooney, and it appears he is ready to up the ante in the chase for the England striker by making an improved offer.

Reports are suggesting that Chelsea are ready to make a bid in the region of £30 million. That will severely test United’s determination to keep a player who has made no secret of his desire to leave and could become a disruptive influence in the dressing room.

United boss David Moyes has already made clear that he does not consider Rooney as one of his indispensable stars but may be reluctant to allow one of his big-name players to strengthen a Premier League rival.
