Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higauin has claimed that Chelsea boss, and former Real coach Jose Mourinho wants to take him from the Santiago Bernabeau and bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer as speculation over his future continues to grow, Sky Sports reports.

The Argentinian international is largely believed to be on the way out during the current transfer window with the likes of Arsenal and Napoli all said to be interested in landing his signature.

And now reports in Spain suggest that Chelsea are now leading the charge to sign him, having worked under Mourinho at Real last season.

“Mourinho wants me there,” Higuain is quoted as saying by AS.

The 25-year-old had been thought to be joining Italian side Juventus at the end of last season only for the move to fail to materialise, though it had helped him to make up his mind that his future lay away from Madrid.

Arsenal had been thought of as favourites as they still search for a replacement for Robin Van Persie who left for Manchester United last summer, whilst Napoli are now in the market for a striker following the sale of Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint Germain.

However, Real aren’t thought to be interested in letting him go for nothing and have reportedly slapped a €40 million price tag on him, though that is well within Chelsea’s budget.

Mourinho has previously been linked with a move for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, but is also thought to be a big fan of Higuain, having used him regularly during his tenure in the Spanish capital.
