Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

Napoli have turned their attentions to signing Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina as their move for QPR’s Julio Cesar hits a roadblock, the Daily Star reports.

Reina had a difficult campaign with Liverpool last season, making a series of high profile errors and manager Brendan Rodgers has brought in Simon Mignolet from Sunderland this summer to act as competition for Reina.

This means that Reina could start on the bench next season, something he is unlikely to be happy with and reports have suggested that he is already looking to leave the club.

Napoli will be quite happy to give him a new home and a deal could be reached fairly quickly as the player shares an agent with the Italian clubs manager Rafa Benitez.

Benitez brought Reina to Liverpool during his time at Anfield and remains a huge admirer of the Spaniard.

Barcelona were also reportedly interested in Reina at the start of the transfer window and were considering making a move for the Spaniard as a replacement for Victor Valdes.

However, Valdes will remain at the Nou Camp for one more season and Barcelona are quite happy to sort their goalkeeping situation out next summer when Valdes contract expires.
