West Ham have submitted a £1.8million bid for 25-year-old Sporting Gijon midfielder Oscar Trejo according to the Daily Mirror.

Sam Allardyce is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign and has reportedly offered a cash plus add-ons deal for the Argentinean attacking midfielder who scored five times in 38 games for Gijon last season.

Sporting are holding out for a deal worth £2.5m with interest also reported from French side Toulouse and Olympiakos but Trejo, who has been in Spain for the last six years, is thought to favour a switch to the top-flight of English football.

The Hammers have held positive initial talks with the former Mallorca man and are reportedly confident of having the deal completed by the end of the week. The players’ agent Hernan Reguera was planning to be in Gijon today in an attempt to resolve issues over his client’s future and discuss a possible move to England.

However there is a dispute to resolve before Trejo can leave the Segunda Division side with money owed to the player, a situation that has previously led him to condemn the club to the Spanish Footballers Association.
