Bundesliga rivals hope to snare midfield ace.
Wolfsburg general manager Klaus Allofs has admitted that the club are interested in agreeing a deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Luis Gustavo this summer, Sky Sports reports.
The Brazilian international isn’t expecting to feature much this season thanks to the arrival of the likes of Mario Gotze and Thiago Alcantara. Gustavo usually operates a little deeper than the two new recruits and had recently expressed a desire to stay and fight for his place, though he may find that difficult as competition for places is sure to increase as the summer progresses.
And Wolfsburg, who have been monitoring the situation for some time now, have already begun to put the wheels in motion over a possible deal.
Allofs told German tabloid newspaper BILD: “If you are looking to improve your team, and if the player is available for transfer, you have to discuss the name of Luiz Gustavo. There is no doubt about that.
“We are interested in him and we have told his agent about that.”
The player himself was happy to remain coy, though, when asked about the possibility of a move away from last season’s treble winners by saying; “What can I say? I am under contract until June 2015.
“We will have to wait and see how things turn out.”
