Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is confident that forward Cristano Ronaldo will sign a new contract with the club despite speculation linking him with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu, Goal.com reports.

Ronaldo’s current contract expires in 2015 and so far the Spanish giants have been unable to persuade the player to sign a deal that will keep him at the club for his peak years.

This has raised the possibility that Ronaldo could move away from the club, with a return to Manchester United a possibility while French clubs AS Monaco and Paris St Germain are also thought to be interested.

However, Ancelotti believes that Ronaldo will be at the club for the long term and praised the players professionalism.

He’s a phenomenal player, a great professional,” Ancelotti told reporters. “It’s important for the club that a player of his quality shows the utmost professionalism”

“It’s also important for the young players to look up to people with this attitude. His contract renewal is not my job, but I do not think it’ll be a problem.”

Reports have suggested that Ronaldo is unsettled at Real Madrid, with the player stating in October last year that he was unhappy in the Spanish capital.

The forward also recently said that he missed English football and Manchester United, heightening speculation that he could be thinking about a move away from Madrid in the near future.
