Man United have set their sights on Bayern Munich starlet Xherdan Shaqiri as David Moyes looks to adopt a youthful transfer policy as he seeks to put his long term stamp on the Old Trafford squad he has inherited from former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

CaughtOffside understands that the Scottish boss has been monitoring Swiss international Shaqiri amid talk of a possible departure from the Allianz Arena this summer.

The highly rated attacker may struggle to make an impact at Bayern Munich following the arrival of Pep Guardiola and young additions Mario Gotze and Thiago Alcantara.

The 21 year old winger managed just 13 Bundesliga starts last term and perhaps most tellingly was handed just one start in Bayern Munich’s triumphant Champions League run.

Moyes is keen to freshen up Man United’s wide attacking options with the likes of Luis Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Nani all struggling for form last term, managing just two goals between them in 60 Premier League appearances during the 2012/13 campaign.

Shaqiri is considered one of the hottest young properties in European football but has struggled to retain a foot-hold in the Bayern Munich first team where Thomas Muller and Franck Ribery are certainties in their respective right and left wing positions. Arjen Robben acts as a back-up option and the trio are all ahead of the former FC Basel man in the Bavarian side’s pecking order.

Man United are thought to be willing to offer up to €20m (£17m) for the young attacker who has amassed 169 club appearances to his name for both FC Basel and Bayern Munich as well as 25 national team caps.
