Napoli have agreed a fee for long term Arsenal target, Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain according to Italian source Corriere dello Sport.

It appeared all had gone quiet on the Higuain front after his proposed move to Arsenal had stalled, after British media reported a £23million fee had been agreed. Yet, now it appears Napoli have been in negotiations with Real Madrid for some time and they have finally agreed on a €35million fee for the 25 year-old striker.

Florentino Perez did not seem keen to sell his striker after his dramatic U-turn on his Premier League move, with the desire to stay in the Spanish capital on his mind. But now that ambition of staying in Spain appears to have cooled and now a move to Nepals seems inevitable.

The Serie A side’s newly appointed boss Rafa Benitez is desperate to land Gonzalo, making him his primary target, whilst a loan move for Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina is being worked on.

Although a deal for Higuain appears likely to be completed, it is unclear as to what Napoli can offer the Argentine for personal terms. He currently earns less than €5million a year [according to CdS], which is expected to rise substantially with the Italian club.

Arsenal are now looking to turn their attention to Liverpool’s Uruguay international Luis Suarez after the 26 year-old expressed his desire to leave Anfield this summer. Despite rumours that Real Madrid want the star, it appears he will join Arsenal or, bitter London rivals, Chelsea.

According to the Mirror, the star striker is to tell Liverpool he wishes to join Arsenal so they can work on finalising a deal.
