Roma are reportedly ‘likely’ to complete a deal to sign Arsenal forward Gervinho next week according to Forza Italia.

Recently installed Giallorossi boss Rudi Garcia is keen to continue his summer spending having won the race to sign much sought after after Dutch international Kevin Strootman as well as a number of other very useful new signings including Mehdi Benatia, Maicon and Croatian wonderkid Tin Jedvaj.

Roma have already made a €6m (£5.1m) offer for the Ivory Coast international but the Gunners are said to have rejected that bid and are looking to secure at least €8m (£6.8m) for the 26 year old, who is little more than a bit part player at the Emirates Stadium.

Garcia knows Gervinho well from their shared time together at Lille, where the adaptable attacker helped the Stade Metropole side to a Ligue 1 title.

Arsene Wenger has already cleared out a significant amount of deadwood this summer with the likes of Sebastien Squilaci, Andrei Arshavin, Andre Santos, Denilson and Vito Mannone all leaving the North London club.

Gervinho hasn’t lived up to the £10.8m fee invested in his services, frequently failing to deliver and at times looking woefully out of his depth.

Last term Gervinho was handed just 12 Premier League starts and has scored a total of 11 goals in 60 appearances for the Premier League side.
